Pathology
Education
The
Department of Pathology at the University of Utah offers postgraduate
training in both anatomic and clinical pathology, or in clinical
pathology only. The residency training program is approved by
the Residency Review Committee of Pathology and is fully accredited
by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
(ACGME). All applicants for first year positions MUST
apply through the ERAS system.
Stipends
and Benefits
Stipends
vary between $44,775 and $55,300 for 2007/2008. The stipend
for the first year house officers is updated yearly, with progressive
increases over the four years. House officers and their families
are provided professional liability insurance, disability insurance
(which includes an "own occupation clause"), life insurance
(valued at $25,000), and may participate in health and dental
insurance. Other benefits include lab coats; meals on call; recreation
facilities including swimming pools, outdoor and indoor tennis
courts, a golf course, and raquetball, handball, and squash
courts; reduced admission to entertainment including the Utah
symphony, NBA Utah Jazz basketball, Pioneer Theater, and Ballet
West. All pathology house officers receive three weeks paid
vacation each year. The Department provides funding for books
and to offset transportation, lodging, and registration fees
for academic conferences during the residency.
