Locations and Facilities

Pathology Education

The Department of Pathology at the University of Utah offers postgraduate training in both anatomic and clinical pathology, or in clinical pathology only. The residency training program is approved by the Residency Review Committee of Pathology and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). All applicants for first year positions MUST apply through the ERAS system.

Stipends and Benefits

Stipends vary between $44,775 and $55,300 for 2007/2008. The stipend for the first year house officers is updated yearly, with progressive increases over the four years. House officers and their families are provided professional liability insurance, disability insurance (which includes an "own occupation clause"), life insurance (valued at $25,000), and may participate in health and dental insurance. Other benefits include lab coats; meals on call; recreation facilities including swimming pools, outdoor and indoor tennis courts, a golf course, and raquetball, handball, and squash courts; reduced admission to entertainment including the Utah symphony, NBA Utah Jazz basketball, Pioneer Theater, and Ballet West. All pathology house officers receive three weeks paid vacation each year. The Department provides funding for books and to offset transportation, lodging, and registration fees for academic conferences during the residency.
