WEBER IMMUNOLOGY TRUST
The Reverend George J. Weber Presidential Endowed Chair in Immunology,
established by Edith F. Weber in honor of her husband, was a generous
gift from the estate of the late Edith F. Cox Weber.
Edith F. Cox Weber was born May 18, 1899 in Chambers, Nebraska.
She married the Reverend George J. Weber on February 12, 1923 in
Lincoln, Nebraska. Mrs. Weber lived with her husband in Nebraska
and New Mexico before coming to Salt Lake City in 1938 where the
Reverend Weber was the minister of the First Congregational Church
in Salt Lake City for twenty years. Reverend Weber retired in September
1958 and died in 1962. Mrs. Weber died in Salt Lake City on January
31, 1990. Out of gratitude for medical care she and her husband
had received in Salt Lake City, Mrs. Weber left a bequest to the
School of Medicine, which created the endowed chair and a library
endowment in immunology.
The proceeds from the endowment are used to foster and strenghten
research and education in the field of immunology at the University
of Utah.
Since its inception in 1992, the Weber Endowment has...
- Sponsored or co-sponsored over 40 visiting speakers
- Provided a stable source of support to the Eccles Health Sciences
Library to maintain journal subscriptions and for the purchase
of immunology and microbiology textbooks
- Awarded
travel grants to almost 100 pre- and postdoctoral
students, giving them the opportunity to attend national scientific
meetings
- Provided a source of start-up funds for new faculty recruits
- Financed computer equipment and software for a FACS analysis station
- Assisted in the purchase of a number of pieces of commonly used scientific
equipment
- Provided lunch for participants at the Microbial
Pathogenesis Seminar Series
